From the Pastor's Desk Welcome to the website of Lakewood Baptist Church! We are delighted that you are here, and we hope you will find both helpful information, and a blessing just for visiting. Lakewood is
a community of faith made up of people who are very warm and
caring. The church
belongs to the American Baptist Churches USA, and to the American
Baptist Churches of Rhode Island.
Being Baptist means that we are centered in the Lord Jesus
Christ and the Word of God, and we serve God and one another
through a distinctly congregational polity.
That means all decisions concerning the ministry and
function of the church come from the congregation itself, and not
from any higher authority. However, it also means that we are in
voluntary cooperation with other American Baptist churches for the
purposes of mission and mutual ministry in service to the
community and world. Mission,
for Lakewood Baptist, means reaching out: with time, talent and
financial support to the needs of our world and community. We give generously, as God provides, to both denominational
and local mission programs, and thereby we reach out to the world.
Many of our members actively participate in volunteer work
in the Warwick Community Food Bank program, in South Providence
Neighborhood ministries, in the Crop Walk, and other mission
opportunities at home and far away. We strongly believe that the
mission field starts right outside our church doors. Being
Baptist also means that we believe in the Lordship of Jesus
Christ, and that we are called to share God’s love, spread the
Good News, and make disciples.
We are a praying people, and prayer for one another and the
world is a vital part of the ministry to which we believe we are
called. Our prayers are also, whenever possible, translated into
helpful, supportive action, and not only to the spoken word. We
invite you to share with us the requests for prayer that you have,
and we covenant with you to pray for you, and for the needs you
present to us. Worship
at Lakewood Baptist is a blending of contemporary and traditional
worship forms. We
love the wonderful old hymns of our faith, and we enjoy singing
contemporary worship music as well.
Music is a most important feature of our worship
experience. The Bible
is the source of our preaching ministry, and we provide Sunday
School classes for all ages. If you do not have a church home, and you live in the greater Warwick area, we invite you to come and worship with us, and prayerfully consider becoming a part of the community of faith at Lakewood Baptist Church. God
